What I see as the benefits of collaborative law:  It allows people to discuss matters in an open, supported and non-confrontational environment, to arrive at a solution which they feel will work for them and their family.

If I wasn’t a lawyer: I would love to be a florist – flowers always bring a smile to people’s faces.

When I am not working: I like to travel, particularly abroad, and enjoy photography and salsa dancing.

Judith Wheeler

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: The process facilitates face to face discussions in a conciliatory lawyer supported environment. The couple can prioritise the issues that are important to them and negotiate at their own pace.

If I wasn't a lawyer: I would be professional Christmas tree decorator, spending the other eleven months of the year travelling the world in search of unusual decorations.

When I am not working: I enjoy spending time with family and friends and travelling.

Solicitor

What I see as the benefit of collaborative law: That it enables couples to take control of the issues and work together to resolve them with the least acrimony, in an open and honest fashion whilst having their solicitor on hand to guide and advise.

If I wasn’t a lawyer: I would probably have been a chef, or would like to own a vintage tea shop and bake cakes.

When I am not working: I am usually being Mum’s taxi service for my two daughters.  When not doing that I like to read crime thrillers, attend concerts, festivals and the cinema, spend time with my family and walk our dog.

Katherine Marshall

Solicitor

What I see as the benefits of Collaborative Law: It offers couples freedom and choice; freedom to set their own agenda and prioritise the issues they want to resolve, and choice around the timing and setting of the four way meetings.  It is a very powerful formula to get disputes settled quickly and as comfortably as possible.

If I wasn’t a lawyer: I would be an artist or, as we are in dream world, editor of Vogue.

When I am not working: I love to spend time with family and friends.  I enjoy cooking and recreating dishes discovered on my travels.  I also immerse myself, whenever possible, in all things creative.

Emma Mitchell

Solicitor

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: Helping couples sort out their family issues in a calm, sensitive and professional way through round table discussions.

If I wasn't a lawyer: My parents both worked for the Armed Forces, so had I not become a lawyer I woud probaby have ended up in the Royal Air Force.

When I am not working: I like to travel, swim, ski and spend time with family & friends - and walking our Labrador Milo.

Caroline Elliott

Solicitor

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: Although it can be a stressful process, it is much much easier than going through the turmoil and expense of court litigation.

If I wasn't a lawyer: Either a psychologist or a tea shop owner!

When I am not working: I love to run (quite slowly!), and enjoy time with family and friends.

Swati Somaiya

Solicitor

What I see as the benefit of collaborative law: It provides the ability to communicate with your ex-partner to reach an amicable and swift resolution that is suitable for your family.

If I wasn’t a lawyer: I have often wondered what it would be like to write books suitable for children - the next JK Rowling maybe!

When I am not working: My children keep me busy - and when I am not chauffeuring them to their usual activities and parties, I like walking, football, cricket and socialising with friends and family.

Claire Round

Accountant

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: It is a process that encourages the parties to separate their interests whilst building a new type of relationship with each other in which they can communicate effectively and co-parent successfully.

If I wasn't a forensic accountant: I would love to be a novelist.

When I am not working: I love books and movies, but mainly having fun with my kids.

Bina Modi

Solicitor

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: It offers a great deal more flexibility, discussing and resolving issues that are important to clients. It provides control over the outcome that suits the needs of the whole family. It can work beyond the perimeters of what the court can order. Clients benefit from not having an imposed Court Order but one they negotiate and choose. An agreement by choice is beneficial post separation and divorce in co-parenting children, ensuring the least negative psychological impact on any children due to separation.

When I am not working: I love sport - whether watching or participating, history, travel and gardening.

Phone

0116 222 1555

Location

Jones & Duffin Solicitors, 142 Narborough Road, Leicester LE3 0BT

James Belderbos

Solicitor

What I see as the benefit of collaborative law: The Collaborative process facilitates an opportunity for couples to communicate and achieve settlement in a supportive environment.

If I wasn't a lawyer: I would be a specialist Garden Nursery Owner.

When I am not working: I love spending time with my family, and for sports Leicester City, Leicester Tigers, running and CrossFit.

Location

Lisa-Marie Leanders

Solicitor

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: There are so many benefits to collaborative law but most importantly it enables the preservation of family relationships, allows agreements to be reached much faster and avoids the stress and significant costs of court.

If I wasn't a lawyer: I would have become a teacher.

When I am not working: Spending time with my husband and 3 young sons, plus travelling, reading and baking (if I ever get the time!).

Chris de Luca

Financial Advisor

What I see as the benefits of collaborative law: The first instinct is to work with all parties involved, gathering all the available information, to allow informed decisions to be made moving forward in a non-confrontational environment.

If I wasn't an advisor: Possibly a historian as to understand how we have got to where we are now is not only fascinating, but helps to explain today’s world!

When I am not working: For the last 40 years I have been, and continue to be, involved with a local grassroots rugby club initially as a player, then as captain, coach, chair and commercial director for my sins!

Our Promise To You

The Resolution code of practise requires lawyers to deal with each other in a civilised way and to encourage their clients to put their differences aside and reach fair agreements.

Traditionally, when couples split, they each take independent legal advice from specialist family lawyers and try to reach agreement of how best to settle their differences. Where couples can’t reach agreement, it is left to the family courts to decide, which can lead to heartache, delay and uncertainty. Collaborative Law is a great alternative. You and your former partner sit down all together in the same meeting room with the help of your own specially trained collaborative law solicitor, and we work it out, face-to-face. Rather than dealing through your family solicitors, you work with them to reach the best outcome for you and your family.
